CARNIVAL 2006

Friday, 10th November - 11.30 a.m. to 4. 30 p.m.

Please put this date in your diary! And if you will be in Bahrain on that day, plan to make it an exciting day out at the Rugby Club. No, this is not a mistake!

To make our next carnival more enjoyable for everyone, the Bahrain Rugby Club has generously offered us its spacious and secure premises for the day. That means much easier car-parking, more space for more activities, and – for the first time at a cathedral-hosted major event – grass where people may sit and picnic, relax and watch the performers in comfort.

And with safety in mind, the soft surface is ideal for a variety of games – suited for all ages, but mostly children.

As before, the main thrust of the event is outreach to the community so that children may celebrate their performing talents in a variety of forms: singing, music-making and dance. It is hoped that several international schools will take place, as well as other youth groups. Krazy Kevin, Radio Bahrain’s “funky” DJ, will be there to compère the event and ensure that a good time is had by all.

The air-conditioned marquee will be “home” to a variety of stalls and a point of sale for raffle tickets. Also, for the first time, the organising committee has been relieved of the burden of organising food, beverages and water. The Rugby Club’s staff will take care of all that, ensuring that international tastes are catered for inside the Club House, and at a B’B’Q outside.

Of course, none of this happens by magic! Even if you think that November is “many moons” away, please bear in mind that summer vacations are upon us and once September arrives and folk return to the island, we shall be in count-down mode.

So, before you go away, please consider how you might help, especially if you are having a clear out: unwanted books, magazines and items for the tombola stall will all be gratefully received (and can be stored at the cathedral). For logistical reasons, we shall not run a White Elephant stall. Items normally associated with that activity are always welcomed by the Charity Centre at the Cathedral.

If you have any new ideas, please suggest them. Regularly updated pew-sheet flyers will provide more information. Sign-up sheets will appear on the coffee room wall in the Cathedral. Nearer the time, progress will be posted on the web-site.

Alison Seward in the Cathedral office is also ready to field your queries and/or to receive offers of help and suggestions: tel. 17253866 or e-mail: cathedra@batelco.com.bh

Meanwhile, have a good summer – wherever you may be. And in advance, thank you for your support.
