The Cross in my Pocket

A number of years ago a friend gave me a present, a card with the poem 'I carry a Cross in my Pocket', attached to which was a small cross.

The words became rather special to me and I found that the card was just the right size to slip into my pocket diary.  Ever since then I have carried this 'card' in my pocket diary, and the words in my mind.

I have included a copy with the hardcopy issue of TBAN, anticipating that readers might like to detach the card and place it in their pocket diary.  It will become for them as for me, a daily reminder that the Lord did indeed die for us all on the cross, and that we share this wonderful fact with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters.

The Cross in my Pocket

I carry a cross in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Chrstian
No matter where I may be.

This little cross is not magic
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm

It's not for identification
For all the world to see
It is simply an understanding
Between my Saviour and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or a key
This cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me too to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say.

It's also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Saviour
And put themselves in His care.

So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no-one but me,
That Jesus Christ is Lord or my life
If only I'll let Him be.
