Mission to Seafarers' Chaplain
Fr. Victor

There is still some confusion out there in the community about the work and status of Fr Victor.
As from January 1st Fr Victor has officially been the part time Chaplain to Seafarers in the port in Bahrain. His main function there is caring for the needs of seafarers when ships arrive in the port. He visits the ships while alongside at Mina Salman.

Fr Victor is also part time Assistant Chaplain at the Cathedral. He divides his time between the two roles. The Cathedral is responsible for his financial support which is partly met by a grant from the Mission to Seafarers head quarters in London. His expenses of office and the cathedral chaplaincy part of the cost we must find here in Bahrain. Fr Victor will also continue to support BISS at the Seafarers Center on the dock until such time as BISS are able to appoint a caretaker.

St Christopher’s Cathedral and BISS have agreed an equitable distribution of roles and responsibility for Fr Victor and together will keep an eye on the development of this important work. The General Secretary of the Mission to Seafarers (London) visited us in March and they too will be considering if and how to support this work in the future.

The Seafarers Dinner Dance is planned for Thursday 21st September at the Dilmun Club. This is to raise funds to support the work of the Chaplain. Please put this date in your diary and be ready to book a table and put aside suitable gifts for the draw.
