A personal Invitation to YOU

You are cordially invited to be present at the enthronement of our new bishop The Rt. Rev’d Michael Lewis on Saturday 1st December at 4.00 p.m. in St Christopher’s Cathedral, Bahrain.

For those who cannot get into the cathedral there will be more seating and a video link into the Alun Morris Hall where a reception will be held once the service has concluded.

What is a bishop and why do we enthrone him?

In the worldwide Anglican Church of which St Christopher’s is a part, bishops are the chief pastors with oversight of the clergy and people in the area covered by their ‘diocese’. In our case the diocese is that of Cyprus and the Gulf where we have two cathedrals, one in Nicosia, Cyprus, and the other here in Bahrain. The word ‘cathedra’ means seat or chair and marks the symbolic place from which the bishop presides over the life and mission of the church in his designated area. As Dean of the Cathedral it is my honour and privilege to put the Bishop in his chair in our cathedral from where he exercises his role as teacher, pastor and guide to the people of God in this place and a sign of unity throughout the diocese. His role is to promote the mission of the church, to watch over and pray for all committed to his charge and to teach and govern them according to the example of the Apostles of Jesus.

This is a great responsibility laid upon this or any person and I ask your prayers for bishop Michael and his wife Julia as they prepare to leave their home in Manchester in the UK and come among us in Cyprus and the Gulf.
