THE ECUMENICAL CONFERENCE OF CHARITY (ECC)

A short update on the wonderful work of service that the ECC has been doing in their Christian outreach to those in crisis situations.

As you may remember, last July there was a ‘blaze horror’ in Bahrain when 16 labourers died and more than 200 were made homeless, some of whom had to undergo treatment for burns and smoke inhalation. The ECC took on the mammoth task of collecting, sorting and distributing to each worker individually and personally, toiletries, clothing, bedding, the basic needs of rehabilitation. The ECC volunteers spent many, many hours in providing not just their basic needs, but sharing their time and offering moral support as well. Thanks go to Rev. Victor for all his support, and to the BACC for their very generous financial support of BD500 on behalf of the Cathedral. Rev. Victor expressed his strong belief that this has been a great witness from our church, that we show the Christian Gospel message of love, compassion, care and concern by action to those in need.

The ECC President, Mrs. Rehna Pinto, together with members of her team, have been working very hard to upgrade the Cathedral Charity Centre. This facility is also a wonderful Christian witness. We now have not only room for a shop and sorting room, but also a counseling room where people with problems can come and be listened to and helped by these ECC volunteers. As you may be aware there is a Christian counseling course taking place at the National Evangelical Church in October. A number of ECC volunteers have enlisted for this making them better qualified to offer free counseling.

If anyone would like to offer a hand at The Charity Centre with regards to sorting and pricing or even selling, please give me a call on 39668828.
