On 16th May
2009 PHILIP DEW and HENRIETTA USBORNE were married in
St. Peter’s Church, Manningford Bruce, a quaint village in the
English county of Wiltshire.
Although few parishioners living in Bahrain today will know Philip,
many readers of the Bahrain Anglican News will remember him as a
larger-than-life character who, during the 1990s in particular, was
a prominent member of St. Christopher’s Cathedral’s life. He served
on the BACC as Treasurer for a time. He was also a vibrant and
vociferous Master of Ceremonies at the annual fetes, well into the
21st century!
But that is only part of the story. For those of us who were in
Bahrain during those years, we fondly remember Philip and Heather,
and their daughters Laila, Nadia and Xenia who arrived in Bahrain as
young girls and grew to adulthood during the time their parents
lived here. Sadly, Heather succumbed to cancer in April 2005.
In due course, having returned to the UK, Philip met Henrietta.
Grant and I felt privileged to be invited to their wedding, billed
as a small gathering of family and “some” friends.
We wish Philip and Hen (as we know her) every happiness together as
they begin their married life living in Cyprus. Angela Murray
