It was the determined and passionate efforts of a young girl called
Mary Jones to obtain a copy of a Bible 200 years ago which inspired
a group of men in London, England to start what became the first
Bible Society in the World. The Bible Society movement has
been faithfully translating, publishing and making available the
Holy Scripture for the last 200 years. The Bible Societies
continue today to encourage people to think differently about the
Bible. In working with the church to lay out the Bible
message, the Bible Societies aim to see the Bible known, loved and
respected everywhere. The Bible Society seeks to carry out its
task in partnership and cooperation with all the Churches and with
Christian organisations.
The Bible Society in the Gulf is responsible to constantly provide
the Scriptures in the Arabian Peninsula. The aim is to relate
and partner with all churches and para-church organisations by:-
Providing the Bible in a language that people can understand, at a
price they can afford and in a form they can use.
Creating products and communication methods, which help people
understand and interact with the Scriptures.
Providing Christian literature and resources.
Raising financial and prayer support through the involvement of
individuals and churches.
Making the Scripture available in the Arabian Peninsula at
affordable prices to support and equip the ministry of the Church
and Church-related organisations in the region.
Specific Bahrain Distribution projects include:
Sinhala Bibles for garments factory workers.
Bibles for transit camps
